1.  First step is to organize your materials for the particular fly you'll be working on.  It helps to only have the materials on the table you'll need for the fly you're tying .  This way, you won't get materials mixed up or go fumbling around for materials in a pile.   Also, tie more than a few of any pattern.  This will help you improve your skills and build your fly box.

2.   Included materials are:

1)  Fl. fire orange UTC 8/0 thread  2)Tiemco 2488 in sizes 16-22      3)scarlet glass beads sized small  4)Hot orange/pearl krystal flash  5)clear hollow midge lace

3.  Pinch barb of hook with flat sided pliers

OJtutorial1.jpg (16975 bytes)

1.  Place bead on hook.

2.  Secure thread behind bead  and tie in 3 strands of krystal flash to middle of the bend.

3.  Tie in clear, hollow midge lace and wrap to middle of bend.    IMPORTANT:   Keep tension on midge lace while you wrap down shank. This will prevent you from creating a bulky body and aid in the tapering of the body later on.

4.  (for rotarty vise users)  wrap back to the eye and secure thread with whip finish

OJtutorial2.jpg (16840 bytes)

1.  Wrap strands of krystal flash up shank in touching turns until you reach the bead.

2.  Secure KF behind bead with whip finish.

3.  (optional if you can't get KF to cover entire shank) Take more turns of KF over the body to the bend, not as compact this time.   Then wrap KF back to bead and whip finish.

OJtutorial3.jpg (15949 bytes)

1.  Wrap midge lace up shank.   IMPORTANT:   Keep tight tension on the midge lace as you begin to go around the shank.   Lighten the tension as you reach the bead.  This should give the bug a semi-tapered body.

2.   Secure lace behind bead and whip finish.

3.  Coat whip finish with 2 coats of thin head cement to blend the thread into the lace.

4.  You're done, fish as an attractor in two fly set up or in murky water.
