San Juan River Fish Camp
2006 Mission: To bring together all of the San Juan Fanatics who have been corresponding through Mike Mora's site, Fly Fisherman Magazine's Bulletin Boards, my site, and all of the internet venues that have given us a chance to meet one another in cyber space. To finally put faces to names on a screen, and to swap techniques, flies, and stories. To cram as much fun as possible into a 2-day FLY FISHING SMORGASBORD! Hello everyone, and thanks for showing interest in the first ever San Juan River Fish Camp! For a few years now, I've been thinking about the possibility of holding a large gathering of internet folks on the San Juan. Many of us have been posting so regularly that it seams like we know each other, and this would be a great way to fish together, meet each other, and maybe catch some Trophy Rainbow Trout! This year, I was a part of a few informal gatherings of people, and the good times had by all were priceless. I know this has been done on a yearly basis on other Fly Fishing Boards, and it would be a GREAT tradition to start for all of us who post, and read Mike Mora's ifly4trout site daily. I've been following posts, and posting for almost 6 years now, and have enjoyed every minute of it. I've learned a lot from all of you, and I can't think of a better way to say thanks. Time Frame for Event From the feedback I received from all of you, spring would be the best time, and would allow us to avoid the crowds of the summer. We would have to worry about high water, and windy weather, but those are the chances you take when you fish the San Juan in the often times crazy NM weather. Here are some prospective weekends including Friday-Sunday because weekends seem to work best for working people Please let me know which dates work best for you, and we'll try to accommodate as many people as possible:
Place for Event I think if there are more than 10 people, which I expect, we'll only be able to meet for lunch on the river, and for dinner after we are done fishing. The Texas Hole Parking Lot gives us the best chance at fishing the more productive stretches of river, parking enough for all our cars, and two covered tables to eat lunch at. I would hope that at least a few groups of us can break up and fish together in some of the larger holes near the Texas Hole.
Lodging Options We may be able to arrange discounts for multiple rooms booked at one of the local lodges. Once we get the number of people wanting a room, I'll contact the lodges and ask them if they offer discounts for groups. Depending on how late in the spring we do the trip, camping should be an option for anyone wishing to camp at Cottonwood, El Rio RV Park, or up at the lake. Fish Camp Anglers ( and those
who have expressed interest in attending ) Paul Freeman aka sjdrifly I'll be updating this page as we pick dates, decide who is attending, where everyone is staying etc... Here are some pictures of previous outings!! -Jude Duran customflies@msn.com
